Seva: the Yogic Practice of Selfless Service
The discipline of “seva”, or selfless service, is a vibrant part of yogic practice. As an organization run by volunteers, we believe that service is a dynamic part of the journey toward well-being and supports connection, care and compassion for us as individuals and our community. For years Elevate Akron has donated to and partnered with local charitable organizations through our annual event, but we know we can do even more together! We hope to not only continue to increase our own partnerships with charitable organizations, but also to mobilize our yoga community to acts of service throughout the year.
Partnerships with Charitable Organizations & volunteerism
Historically, we’ve partnered with charitable organizations that are meeting basic needs of those in our community, especially those that emphasize services to families and children affected by poverty. We’ve made donations to organizations such as Summit County Children Services and United Way. This year we are excited to release our Elevate Akron Awards to provide support to those who are elevating Akron, so stay tuned for the application process. Also, we strive each year to be a Zero Waste event to serve our planet. Moving forward, we want to do even more! Not only are we looking for lead volunteers to head up special projects, we also always need good volunteers for our annual event. Hosting Accessible Events to Improve Community Health & Connection
As part of our expanded mission and vision, we desire to support our community year-round. Many of our charitable partners have expressed interest in hosting events throughout the year that are free and support the mission of Elevate Akron through promoting health, connection, and opportunities for service. We’re already developing community events with organizations like Summa Health, Revitalize Medical Group, and The Mustard Seed.
